Ska and Steamworks Face Plant Blood and Mud
Last week I wrote a bit about the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic which is happening this week, and how I’m going to be out of town and won’t be here for any of the fun. Well I just got word about an awesome unofficial kick off to the weekend that is making me regret leaving town more and more.
Ska and Steamworks collaboratively brew the Face Plant Blood and Mud beer every year and have a little party to celebrate. But it’s not a regular “hang out at the bar and drink beer party”. This is a roving, costumed, unofficial bike parade party.
The fun starts at Ska Brewing World Headquarters at 5pm on Friday (May 22). Show up on your bike, wear a costume, be prepared to have fun. They’ll hang out, have a beer and then ride downtown to Steamworks for the tapping of Face Plant Blood and Mud with a stop at Durango Cyclery along the way. Riders get a commemorative pint glass and their first pint is free once they make it to Steamworks.
The fun doesn’t end there though. Face Plant Blood and Mud, an unfiltered (mud) amber (blood) hefeweizen this year, will be on tap at both breweries all weekend. Buy a pint glass at Ska or Steamworks and get it refilled for $3/pint all weekend. If all that wasn’t enough, they’ll be donating a portion of the proceeds to Trails 2000 and the American Heart Association.
I’m really bummed to be missing this, but really excited that it’s happening none the less. This just goes to show how awesome the local beer and bikes communities are.

[...] I wrote about Face Plant Blood and Mud, the amber-wheat collaboration brewed by Ska and Steamworks for the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic Weekend, but I was out of town that weekend, and missed the tapping party. I thought I’d missed my chance to try it, but when I stopped into Ska Brewing this weekend to pickup some homebrew supplies I was excited to find it still on tap. [...]
