More Beer and Bikes from Ska Brewing, Wheelsucker Wheat Ale
Ska Brewing is at it again with another bike related beer.
I first got word of this collaboration beer with Avery Brewing up in Boulder from the Soggy Coaster’s interview with Dave Thibodeau of Ska Brewing at the fantastic Durango beer blog Beer at 6512. Dave mentioned they were collaborating with Avery on a hefeweizen as well as riding their bikes from Avery Brewing in Boulder down to Ska Brewing in Durango, stopping at different breweries along the way to raise money for bike related non profits.
That all sounded awesome, and it looks like Avery just sent out a press release which I found at Fermentedly Challenged, a great beer blog out of Greeley, CO.
The ride, named The Tour of Colorado, will start in Boulder on July 20th, and head towards Durango. There will be a kick off party at the Avery Taproom in Boulder the night before, with stops at breweries along the way. They’ll end up at Ska Brewing in Durango nearly a week later, Sunday July 25th for the tapping of the collaboration beer, Wheelsucker Wheat Ale.
The full press release can be read at Fermentedly Challenged.
The word from Dave’s interview is that they’re hoping to have a ska band playing at the brewery, hopefully some big name Durango cyclists, and proceeds from the party will go to the La Plata County Safe Roads Coalition.
Sounds like an awesome (and grueling) week for those riding. I’m sure they’ll have a great time. They’ll be riding five days, 426 miles and 42,000 vertical feet. I’m looking forward to heading to the party and trying the beer when they get down to Durango.
