Bayfield to Pagosa (Brewing Company)

This weekend Kinsee and I were heading out to the Pagosa Folk n’ Bluegrass Festival in Pagosa Springs, CO. It felt like the perfect time for me ride out there and meet Kinz and not have to pedal home.

Downtown Pagosa Springs is about 42 miles or so from our house in Bayfield, but no trip to Pagosa is complete without stopping at the Pagosa Brewing Company on the west end of town. I left Bayfield around 9:30 and headed down Highway 160. There’s a nice wide shoulder almost all of the way to Pagosa Springs which makes things really nice. The ride is beautiful and not too strenous. It’s a nice easy climb for about 11 miles or so, then a nice long decent, where I hit 40mph and I don’t think I pedaled for about 3 miles or so, then a slight elevation gain and climb into the westend of town.

The scenary the whole way is just gorgeous, mountains, meadows, trees, rivers and creeks. 37 miles and two hours later I pulled up to the brewery, surpisingly less exhausted than I thought I would be.

Even though Pagosa Brewing was serving their Sunday brunch I wasn’t too hungry immediatly after the ride. I was ready for beer though. I tried their Coconut Porter and it was delicious, but I thought it might be a bit too heavy for me and opted for the lighter Eagle ESB which was darn good. I’m hoping to make the ride to Pagosa a semi-regular thing this summer.

Kinsee passed me on the way out and stopped to take some pictures. There’s also a map below with the elevation profile. Click below to see them.
