Fourth of July Beer Happenings in The Four Corners
The big highlight of the weekend for me is happening at Lady Falconburgh’s Barley Exchange on Friday night. Greg Koch, CEO and founder of Stone Brewing Co. will be in town for Stone Night at Lady Falc’s. According to Beer at 6512 they’ll be tapping a keg of the 2009 Imperial Russian Stout as well as have Stone Ruination IPA and Levitation on tap, as well has have some Stone mugs and possibly other merch. If you haven’t had a chance to try too many Stone beers on tap, or already love Stone, make sure you get down there. In my very limited interactions with Greg he seems to be an outstanding guy. Checkout this interview with him about I previously blogged about.
If drinking some of the best beer around with the founder and CEO of the brewery isn’t your thing, or you just want to hit up a brewpub as well while you’re downtown Friday night, head over to Carver Brewing Co. (and check out their newly redesigned website… lookin’ good!) where they’re having some live music to kick off the holiday weekend. Carver’s is hosting the Titanium Spork Tour’s stop in Durango, named because of their primary mode of consumption, the tour consists of singer/songwriter Carter Sampson opening for The Souvenirs. whose members include Oklahoma’s Joe Mack and Durango’s own Chris Lee Becker, formerly of Rock & Rye. The show starts at 8pm on Carver’s Patio and is free! While you’re there try the seasonal Powerhouse Porter, or if a lighter beer is more your thing, the La Plata Pilsner is on tap now.
On the Fourth at 9pm Liquid Cheese and Nosotros will be taking the stage at Steamworks Brewing Co. in Durango, $7 cover. Both bands are playing the night before at the Abbey Theater for a $10 cover. Word is Steamworks has a vanilla bean oatmeal stout right now. I haven’t confirmed this, but it sounds good, stop in and get one as it’ll probably go fast.
Steamworks Brewing Co.’s Bayfield Beer Factory is hosting a Humaine Society Fundraiser BBQ on the Fourth. Their website is low on details, but their location makes them a great place to watch the fireworks in Bayfield, not sure what time the BBQ is or what the cost is, but if you’re in Bayfield for the day or night this will probably be the place to be.
Silverton Brewery up north in Silverton will be hosting a fireworks afterparty (although I’m sure the partying will be happening most of the day up there). The night of the Fourth they’ll be having specials on red, white and blue jello shots and possibly more.
Out in Pagosa Springs at the Pagosa Brewing Co. The Wild Blooms Trio from Austin, Texas will be playing both Friday and Saturday under their heated festival ten. Friday they’re playing with Pagosa’s own The Flying Elmos from 7-9:30pm, $10-15 admission, Mug Clubbers get in for $5. The day they’ll be back on stage (this time with The Flying Elmos) from 3pm-5pm for $10.
If anyone knows of events going on at Three Rivers Brewery in Farmington, Ska Brewing or any of the other local breweries please leave a comment below!
