AHA Rally and Durango Brewing Co.’s New Brew: Motivator
Last Friday night I stopped by Ska Brewing Co. World HQ for the American Homebrewers Association Rally.
I got there about 2 hours late but the party was in full effect. There were about 50 people there, local homebrewers, folks representing all the local breweries and a handful of homebrewers that had just finished an advanced homebrewing course at at the Fort through the Siebel Institute of Technology. Helping run the event were some members of local homebrew club the Mesa Verde Mashers. I met the president of the club, Bill Downs an awesome guy who shared some of his delicious organic homebrew.
In addition to getting to hang out and chat with fellow beer geeks there was drinking to be done. The local breweries each had something on tap, including Durango Brewing Co.’s newest: Motivator. I’m usually not a huge fan of Scottish Style Ales as I feel they’re often way too malty, but this one is good. Pagosa Brewing Co. brought a red ale on cask, Ska Brewing Co. had a special Nefarious Ten Pin Porter Sour aged in oak barrels and Steamworks and Carver Brewing Co.’s were both there with some not quite standard offerings (if I remember right it was a Belgian blonde from Steamworks and an Oatmeal Pale Ale from Carver’s? as tends to happen at events like this my memory is a little hazy).
This also happened to be my very first beer review for Buzztown. Just last week I became an official Buzztown Beer Reviewer. I’ll be posting beer reviews and happening every once in a while on the site. So sign up for an account and check it out. Click here to read what I had to say about Motivator and watch a video Kinsee shot of the AHA Rally including me chatting with Durango Brewing Co. brewer Damon Scott about the new beer.
