Breweries in Durango:
Carver’s is located at 1022 Main Ave. in the heart of downtown Durango. They don’t bottle their beer so you have to go straight to the source if you want to try it, and if you like beer you do, Carver’s beer is GOOD. Carver’s is also a family friendly restaurant with great food.

Durango Brewing Co. is located on the north end of town at 3000 Main Ave. Don’t judge Durango Brewing Co. by their small sized tap room, they don’t have a lot in the way of food, but they’ve got what counts: BEER. They seem to always have their regular lineup of beers on tap and often have a couple seasonals.

Ska Brewing Co. is south of downtown in an industrial area known as Bodo Park at 225 Girard St. Don’t let the slightly (and I do mean slightly, it’s about a 5 minute drive) out of the way location deter you, Ska Brewing Co. is a must see for any beer lover near Durango. They have a beautiful facility opened in September 2008, bigger than their old digs they can make a ton more beer, and have a sweet tap room. They’re always pouring about 10 different beers, often with something special on tap. Food at Ska Brewing Co. is available from Zia Taqueria beer and tacos, what could be better? The founders of Ska have strong roots as homebrewers and they’re keeping that tradition alive with one of the best selections of homebrew equipment and ingredients in the area.

Steamworks Brewing Co. has two locations a brewpub in downtown Durango at 801 E. Second Ave. and a bar with pub grub 20 miles east of Durango in the town of Bayfield at 442 Wolverine Dr. The Durango restaurant is the original location and the Bayfield location is now where the majority of the beer is brewed. The restaurant in Durango has great food and a more robust beer selection, while the Bayfield Beer Factory has appetizers and their standard line up of brews. Unless you’re in Bayfield already you probably won’t ever see Steamworks Bayfield Beer Factory, but don’t miss the original restaurant in Durango.

Breweries in Southwest Colorado:
Pagosa Brewing Co. is about 5 miles west of downtown Pagosa Springs at 118 N. Pagosa Blvd. They have an ever changing lineup of something like 10-15 beers on tap, good food and an awesome patio/beer garden. Everytime I go I sample a beer I haven’t had before, and they’re all delicious.

The town of Silverton is about 50 miles north of Durango and the Silverton Brewery is at 1333 Greene St right in the heart of Silverton. With a handful of their beers on tap and pub grub to eat, Silverton Brewery should be visited by all when in Silverton. Grab a beer and chat with Ian the assistant brewer and you’re in for a treat.

Ourayle House
The Ourayle House is a tiny bar attached to a tiny brewery with a lot of character. At 215 7th Ave in the beautiful town of Ouray Colorado this is one of my favorite places to drink a beer. When the weather’s warm enough their small patio (really just a couple tables and chairs outside the bar) provides for great views of the surrounding mountains.

At 225 S. Pine St in Telluride Smuggler’s Brew Pub comes close to offering views just a nice as Ourayle House while sipping on a beer. When I was there last they had about 12-15 of their own beers on tap, a great patio and good pub grub food.

Breweries in Farmington, NM:
Farmington isn’t the tourist desitnation Durango is, but only 45 minutes south at 113 E. Main St in Farmington, NM, a trip to Three Rivers Brewery is a trip all beer lovers visiting Durango should take. Historic downtown Farmington has charm and Three Rivers Brewery is located right in the middle of it. Not only do they have plenty of beer on tap (somewhere around 10 house brews) they have a restaurant, a pizzeria and a game room.

Other Places of Interest:
Lady Falconburgh’s Barley Exchange
Lady Falconburgh’s Barley Exchange doesn’t brew their own beer, but they have one of the finest selections of beer on tap and in bottles around. Hidden away at 640 Main Ave. in downtown Durango Lady Falconburgh’s is a true beer geeks treat. They have 38 taps of beer from all over the world and plenty more in bottles. Good food and some discount nights (Monday and Thursday last time I checked) make this a popular spot.
Star Liquors is a standout liquor store. All the liquor stores in town carry the local stuff, but if you’re looking for something from out of town that’s not your run of the mill craft beer, chances are Star Liquors has it. It’s on the edge of town, far out of my way at 1485 Florida Rd, but it’s my go to liquor store. In addition to having an awesome selection, they also allow you to mix and match singles so you can sample different beers and not be stuck with a whole six pack of something you don’t like.
