This was my first time watching cyclocross, and even though I only saw the last race of the day, the Men’s A race, it was a lot of fun. (It was also my first time ever taking pictures of a bike race).

The course was pretty cool, using the grass at the park, the sand of the volleyball court, a steep hill near the river and two small parts of the Animas River Trail. The weather was perfect, no mud or snow, I was a little bummed that it wasn’t like some of the gnarly pictures and videos I’ve seen of muddy CX, but still a lot of fun to watch.

Todd Wells got the win, Joey Thompson second. Not sure who was after that. Some pictures are below and the rest of the pics I took are on Flickr here. Feel free to leave a comment identifying any riders and I’ll add a caption. Race results (via FLC Cycling) are below the pics.

Cyclocross at Santa Rita Park, Durango

The Durango Herald has the full schedule for the Fort Lewis College Cyclocross Series. Racing starts November 1st at The Fort. Races in the series will be held in Dolores, Cortez, Aztec and Durango throughout the month of November. The finals will be back at the Fort on December 6th.

For those needing some practice before the races (or those just learning) the Durango Wheel Club is holding two weekly cross rides. Sunday mornings and Wednesdays at noon, both up at Fort Lewis.

Even if you’re not racing or riding, cyclocross is fun for spectators too, stop by and take in the action.
