This past weekend took me up to Telluride for the Telluride Bluegrass Festival, as excited about the festival as I was, I was also really excited to check out Smuggler’s Brewpub in Telluride as I’ve heard good things.

The pub itself is nice with both indoor and outdoor seating. The menu is pretty extensive, with regular pub grub and some fancier options. As for the beer, they had twelve of their own beers on tap, maybe more I didn’t ask about seasonals as I was looking forward to a few listed on the menu.

We got a sampler of eight beers for $10:

Rocky Mountain Rye – I wasn’t too impressed with this. I was hoping I’d be able to taste the rye more, but it tasted like a pale ale to me.

Knuckledragger Extra Pale Ale – This tasted very similar to the Rock Mountain Rye above.

Two Plank Porter – A good porter, a bit chocolatey but not over the top.

Shred Betty Raspberry Wheat – Less raspberry flavors and less sweet than Carver Brewing Co’s Raspberry Wheat, a very light mouthfeel and not bold enough for me.

Powder Night Espresso Porter – I liked this one a lot, I could taste the coffee flavors it in. I could drink a lot more of this.

10:13 Oatmeal Stout – Not bad. Not the best stout I’ve had, but easily drinkable with a great taste.

San Juan SkyHOP – Cascade hops give this beer it’s hoppy flavor. Another good one.

Imperial San Juan SkyHOP – A bigger stronger version of the beer above. Double fermented with two yeast strains according to the menu. It was a little too hoppy for me that day, but not a bad beer at all.

I would have loved to tried the rest of the beers they had available, or gotten a few pints but we had to get over to the festival. Smuggler’s Brewpub will definitely be on the list of places to go next time I’m in Telluride.
